Professor Wendy Brown

Professor Wendy Brown Professor Wendy Brown is the Inaugural Professor of Physical Activity and Health in the School of Human Movement Studies at The University of Queensland.  Her research is in the area of health promotion and the prevention and management of chronic illness from a population health perspective, and she has extensive experience in the design, implementation and evaluation of both epidemiological and intervention studies.  Much of her work has focused on the health and well-being of Australian women, the high burden of illness attributable to inactivity and overweight, and the links between physical activity and all aspects of health and well-being.  Prof. Brown was a principal investigator on the 10,000 Steps Rockhampton project, which aimed to increase the levels of physical activity in an entire community of about 60,000 people. 

Prof. Brown is also a principal investigator for the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health, which is tracking the health of 40,000 women in the Australian States and Territories to improve understanding of the social, environmental and behavioural determinants of health.  Since 2000, Prof. Brown has contributed to research projects with a value of more than $15m, and has published more than 100 health research articles in national and international journals, as well as numerous national reports.  In this project she will provide leadership on aspects of the project relating to the social and behavioural determinants of health.
