Dr Dimitrios Vagenas

Dr Dimitrios Vagenas is the University of Queensland statistician for the project and has a BSc in Animal Science from Greece. Following the completion of the BSc he moved to Edinburgh where he studied for an MSc in Animal Breeding at Edinburgh University followed by a PhD in quantitative genetics in the same university, based at the Roslin Institute. At the same time he commenced studies with the Open University, UK, for a BSc in Mathematics and statistics which will be completed in October, 2007. Following the completion of his PhD, Dimitrios was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Scottish Agricultural College where he worked as a mathematical modeller. During this time, Dimitrios was involved in creating a model to describe the interaction between parasitism and nutrition in a growing lamb and how this interaction affects population parameter estimates such as heritabilities and genetic correlations.

All his involvement in science was in an area involving health, although mostly of sheep!!! Dimitrios and his partner decided to immigrate to Brisbane from Edinburgh and the position of statistician on the ‘marriage’ project was the perfect opportunity for him to move to the ‘human’ side!!!

This project is funded by an ARC/NHMRC Ageing Well, Ageing Productively Strategic Award.
